Next Door Crimes: Frozen

When the town’s mayor is murdered – and cryogenically frozen along with several fertilized human eggs carrying his genes, the search for his killer - and their motive – throws the entire town into chaos.

Could it have been his ex-wife, the provider of the egg cells, who had never recovered from their separation five years earlier? Perhaps his 17-year-old son, who would greatly benefit financially by not having any more brothers or sisters? Or the widow who had her mind set on conceiving a child with the eggs from the mayor’s first marriage?

Even a good friend and political ally of the mayor is suspect - a doctor who had heavily invested in stem cell research…

The town’s cops, Mark and Rebecca, are on the case. One of the most pressing issues is the fate of the artificially inseminated eggs... an issue where Mark is at odds with his ex-wife Anette, who is now the new mayor.

While he expresses the fear that her new job will cause her to neglect their son Jonas, he’s really afraid that she’ll neglect him. He’s already uncomfortable with the fact that it’s his rival, the lawyer Frebert, who’ll be babysitting his son. It’s not only Anette’s new position as mayor that makes life difficult for Mark; she also has a problem with how he’s handling the investigation.

It surfaces that their son Jonas was also the result of artificial insemination, but the big question remains: how far can science and medical research go to benefit mankind before it actually becomes immoral?
