Schiller Street is a brightly entertaining show that highlights the almost-lost art of improvisation. Although seemingly simple, the concept is applied in groundbreaking form, guided by a highly defined production method.

The basics: a stage, a few top-class comedians, a continual flow of surprise guests…and no script whatsoever. The entertainers are given a very general impression of the plot, which centers on the main character and takes place in his apartment.

The hilarity…and the spontaneity, are fueled by the director, who communicates weird and wacky dialogue via earphones to the individual cast members one at a time. The others have no idea what was communicated. How the others react to a character’s cue is what has made this show so incredibly funny and successful.

“Confess you’ve been kidnapped by aliens”, ”You’ve just seen a ghost” or “Talk in a language no one can understand”…confronted by such out-there dialogue, each comedian must improvise on the spot and go with the flow, and anything can happen…which usually does! A rotating variety of guests keep the humor at high level, although there are never more than five actors on stage at any point in time.
The audience is kept aware of the hidden dialogue, which is flashed on the screen, but the sheer freshness of the situation makes it impossible to predict in what direction they’ll go next.
Innovative, pure and refreshing…and guaranteed to inspire uncontrollable laughter – that’s Comedy ŕ la Schiller Street.
