The Real Treasure Island

Was Robert Louis Stevenson really one of the greatest and most successful treasure hunters of all time?

In 1821, the colonial masters of South America owned enormous amounts of gold and jewelry. When enemies threatened to steal these treasures, they were placed under the guardianship of one Captain Thomson – who then proceeded to steal it all…

Written in 1861, Robert Louis Stevenson’s famous fictional classic begins where history books end: the hunt for the legendary Treasure Island and the discovery of the treasure by Stevenson’s main character, Jim Hawkins.

Countless writers have failed to prove that it was Stevenson himself who found the treasure, despite convincing evidence. Clearly he knew of it: long before he even began his novel there were publicized accounts of others’ search attempts.

As well, Robert Louis Stevenson had an intimate knowledge of the Caribbean Islands where the treasure was supposedly buried, having moved there with his family – despite its high humidity being a threat to his health…

The adventurer and author Alex Capus undertakes an exciting journey to discover the long-hidden truth about the legendary and mysterious Treasure Island.

This fascinating documentary sets out to prove that indeed, it was Robert Louis Stevenson himself who discovered this magnificent treasure.
