Jana has everything a young woman would want: a successful career and a happy relationship with the man of her dreams, Max – until the day she accidently runs over a pedestrian, Tom, leaving him comatose.
Although it clearly was not her fault, Jana is plagued by feelings of guilt. Immediately after the accident Max proposes to her, putting Jana in an emotional chaos which quickly turns into shock when suddenly Tom appears before her.
Although his motionless body is still lying in the hospital, Jana is the only person who can not only see and hear Tom, but she can feel his touch!
Tom questions the benefits of being a ghost. He is not yet dead and his presence is making Jana think that she is going insane.
After Jana’s wits return and she accepts her situation, both of them realize that they met when they were kids and even shared the experience of their first kiss.
Tom begins to meddle into Jana’s life, showing up in the most awkward moments. With Tom being invisible to all but Jana, Max’s parents think that she is crazy as Jana appears to be constantly talking to herself.
But Tom needs her help now. He asks her to break into the aeronautics firm to retrieve his finished research project, for which one of his colleagues wants to claim credit.
When she finally agrees to fetch the files, it is too late – the colleague has been faster. Tom’s spirit is fading slowly, since it was the passion for his revolutionary project that had been keeping him alive.
Desperately, Jana tries to convince him that there are so many other worthwhile things to live for, she being one of them: Jana has fallen in love with a ghost!
On the very same day that Jana and Max celebrate their engagement, Tom’s parents want to disconnect his life support.
Jana admits her true feelings for Tom and hurries to the hospital, where she confesses her love to him. But it is too late, as his heart stops beating just moments later…
