When the single mom Eva Kovac loses her job, she answers an ad in the newspaper offering up to €2000 per month for handwork including knitting – without having the slightest clue that her new boss Henrik Heinichen is a crook.
Unknown to his workers, he has absolutely no intention of selling the finished, knitted garments. Instead, he’s making a bundle on selling the knitting machines he convinces his workers they must have – at a hefty profit. Like a woman possessed, Eva produces the knitted garments, only to be told when she delivers them that she will not be paid until Heinichen has found buyers. 
Shocked, Eva sternly lectures him about her rights and calls him a swindler. Knowing his scheme is in danger, Heinichen tries to get rid of her, but Eva is not so easily deterred.
Taking the initiative, Eva manages to negotiate a large contract with a department store, and then tracks down Heinichen’s other victims to convince them to work with her.
Infected by Eva’s enthusiasm, they all join her team… which is still under contract to Heinichen.
Jan, Eva’s new neighbor, helps her out by looking after the children while she is at work. Eva eventually succumbs to his flirting, and soon, everything in her life seems to be going smoothly. But then the rival clothing firm “Kiddies” delivers a bombshell in the form of a take-over bid. 
They promise Eva a position in the new company, and offer Heinichen a huge financial compensation. Eva fights against the takeover, knowing well they want to shut her company down.
Outfoxing Heinichen, she declares that she is not at all interested in the take-over bid, and defiantly works harder than ever before. 
Then comes another bombshell – an official from the Bureau of Employment appears, stating that Heinichen never registered his workforce with the Bureau. Now, devastated by the myriad of fines levied against them, the company is forced into bankruptcy.
To make matters even worse for Eva, Jan accepts an attractive job offer in Namibia. One by one it seems that all of Eva’s dreams are steadily going up in smoke…
