Innocent
Crime | Series, Season I: 12 x 45’
The young lawyer Dr. Anna Winter has fiercely dedicated her entire life to one single cause: justice.
She is determined to free innocent people from prison that have been falsely accused and jailed for crimes they did not commit.
Using any and every means, Anna reopens complex and unusual cases in order to catch the real criminals whose guilt so far has never been proven…
There are deeply personal reasons that have propelled her on this tireless crusade. Her own father, sentenced and jailed for a murder he did not commit, took his own life in prison after becoming desperate that nobody – not even his own daughter – believed he was telling the truth.
To this very day, Anna cannot forgive herself and is only slightly able to soothe her embattled conscience by proving innocent those who have been unjustly imprisoned…
Anna is aided in her investigations by a highly engaged team, consisting of Marco Lorenz, a former cop who suffers from a serious heart disease, the scientist Dr. Sebastian Krueger, a cancer researcher who heads a famous Berlin clinic and the Latin American Isabella, who joined the group as an assistant after Anna had proven her innocence despite the seemingly strong evidence condemning her.
Nothing can prevent Anna and her team from discovering the truth, regardless of how obviously guilty their client might appear. Each newly reopened case proves to be even more spectacular than the last.
What may seem to be a clear-cut case of a man murdering his wife can easily hide a far deeper and more complex truth - an involvement in illegal organ trafficking or a catastrophic environmental scandal kept hidden by powerful political interests.
Whatever the cost, whatever the risk, Anna and her team are relentless in their pursuit to free the innocent and make the guilty pay for the consequences of their crime…
