Court in the Act

Comedy Show | Format

“Court in the Act…?” is all about funny court decisions, bizarre trials and even stranger laws. The show is presented by the “honorable judge”, who is also an “honorable” comedian. Two teams of two comedians hilariously compete to discover the secrets and absurdities of the national and international justice systems.

They do their best to offer their most spontaneous, outrageous, and sometimes provocative but always funny opinions on each case.

The one-hour improv comedy show consists of four rounds. At first, “Court in the Act…nationwide?” deals with everyday but exciting national legal questions that every viewer might at some point ask himself. Are you allowed to lie to a police officer? Or do you have the right to change your plane seat when a smelly person sits next to you? The comedians’ big challenge is to solve these tricky but common cases. For each solved case, each team scores a point.

In the second round, “in the very act”, a supervision video of a criminal offense is shown. Each team has to convince the “people” – aka the viewers in the studio – the innocence of their client with a humorous final plea.

The studio audience decides which nonsensical summation they like best, with the winning team receiving another point.  In the third round “Court in the Act…worldwide?” the comedians speculate about bizarre felonies and surprising legal decisions from all over the world, such as the weird decision that was handed down to a young woman who was claiming sexual harassment at her workplace.

The judge threw out her case because he couldn’t imagine anybody wanting to sexually harass her…she was too ugly! Let’s just see what the comedians do with these cases!

In the final round, “cross-examination”, the supreme judge presents the two teams with an actual convicted offender. Asking as many questions as they possibly can in 30 seconds, the teams consecutively attempt to learn why the individual was convicted. However, if they still don’t have the answer after 4 minutes, they unfortunately don’t score any points.

A typical example might be the guy who paid a fine after he was busted for breaking into a supermarket while he was totally drunk. He climbed onto the roof of the supermarket and crashed through a skylight, landing directly on top of a rack full of tomato sauce…where he was later awakened by police officers.

The prize: Each team plays for a particular viewer in the studio who has received a traffic ticket. The “Supreme Court” pays the ticket of the “traffic offender” whose team wins! But the viewers at home can also display their legal knowledge by sending in the correct answer to a question posed by the Supreme Judge in an SMS – and one lucky viewer is the winner of a nice prize.

Tune in to the only court show where no one can stop laughing!
