SevenOne International: “Desert Tears” wins the Social Award at the Rose d’Or 2010
Munich, September 23, 2010. SevenOne International´s documentary “Desert Tears” won the “Social Award”. The “Social Award” recognises programs which deal with significant social and humanitarian subjects as well as social trends and ethics. The Rose d’Or Festival, held annually in Lucerne, Switzerland, draws the best of the year's entertainment television programming.

“Desert Tears” has already won the prestigious Adolf-Grimme-Award 2010 in the category “Information & Culture”. In the gripping documentary, group of human rights activists want to end the horrifying 5,000-year-old practice of female genital mutilation. Teaming up with Islamic scholars, they hope to end the suffering by reaching out to the masses through Islam. During a conference, ten-year-old Eri takes her turn onstage, relating the horrific details of the most dreadful experience of her life. While many of the Imams are shamed, others are angered they have to endure hearing Eri’s story.
